Speaking at the working session, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong emphasized the traditional values, antiquity, and long history of the former imperial capital, with its cultural values, landscapes, and architecture that have created the Hue tourism brand - a key destination on the national tourism map.
According to the Deputy Minister, hosting the National Tourism Year 2025 requires Thua Thien Hue to set higher goals, develop more distinctive products, add more experiential spaces for tourists, promote its tourism brand, and attract domestic and international tourists.
This is not only an opportunity to promote local culture and tourism, but also plays a crucial role in the goal of making Thua Thien Hue a centrally-governed city by 2025.
Presenting the Draft Plan for Organizing the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, the Director of the Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism, Nguyen Van Phuc, stated that the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is a significant cultural, economic, social, and tourism event of national and international scale, combined with the Hue Festival 2025, linked to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Thua Thien Hue (March 26, 1975 - March 26, 2025) and other major national celebrations; and in response to and to welcome Hue becoming a centrally-governed city.
The event aims to introduce and promote the tangible and intangible cultural values, resources, and unique tourism products of Vietnam in general and Thua Thien Hue province in particular; attract domestic and international tourists, create a breakthrough in tourism development, and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the province.
The National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 will strongly promote tourism development linkages between localities nationwide to leverage strengths and potential for tourism development within and between regions, contributing to enhancing the image, position, and brand of Vietnamese tourism in general and Thua Thien Hue in particular in the coming years.
The National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025 are expected to include 62 main programs and events. The highlight will be the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year combined with the opening of the Hue Festival and a fireworks display celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Thua Thien Hue. This event is scheduled to be held at the end of March 2025 in Hue City.
This event marks a new step in promoting Vietnam's tourism image to the world and simultaneously creates momentum for socio-economic development in the locality.
At the meeting, appreciating Thua Thien Hue's proactive approach in proposing to host the National Tourism Year 2025, the Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Nguyen Trung Khanh, stated that this is the second time Hue has hosted the National Tourism Year, after the first time in 2013. He noted that hosting the National Tourism Year has consistently yielded positive impacts, creating significant growth for localities. The Director suggested that the Thua Thien Hue tourism industry needs to innovate in terms of ideas, themes, and activities organized during the National Tourism Year 2025.
Thua Thien Hue also requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to collaborate in organizing a national or international food festival in the locality to create a highlight; as well as in promoting and publicizing the event.
