What to eat?
The interesting thing is that just stopping in front of any restaurant on the island, visitors can immediately feel the flavor of Phu Quoc spreading in the air, the characteristic smell of the most famous spice here: fish sauce. Fish sauce is like a special conductor connecting the culinary culture of Phu Quoc together into a unified picture: rich in flavor and unforgettable.
One of the famous dishes associated with this spice is herring salad. The authentic dish is a combination of thinly sliced herring mixed with shredded coconut, fermented vinegar with a sour taste and pleasant aroma. In particular, the dipping sauce used with this specialty is made from Phu Quoc fish sauce mixed with lemon, sugar, chili, garlic, crushed roasted peanuts - the element that makes the soul of the dish.
Coming to Phu Quoc, you cannot miss the rustic dish with the catchy name "bun quay". Fresh noodles are prepared on the spot; minced shrimp, fish, and fresh squid are cooked from the water used to boil the noodles, adding a little seasoning and lots of chopped onions. The attraction of the dish also lies in the "divine" dipping sauce that diners are instructed to make themselves from salt, sugar, seasoning powder, pepper with Phu Quoc chili and kumquat.
Of course, seafood is definitely an indispensable part here. Dishes are made from fresh seafood caught during the day such as grilled lobster on charcoal, sea urchin porridge, grilled oysters with scallion oil, various types of snails, and lady snails... so fresh that many diners have compared it to "bringing the whole ocean into their mouths".
What to play?
Phu Quoc is made up of 22 small islands, notably Bai Sao, Bai Truong, Hon May Rut, Hon Mong Tay, Hon Mot and especially Hon Thom. It is not difficult for tourists to find a tour to visit the islands, go fishing or diving to see coral, experiencing a day of life as a real fisherman.
At Hon Thom, visitors can visit the unique entertainment area - Hon Thom Natural Park, or the most modern Aquatopia Water Park in Southeast Asia. Phu Quoc Safari, located in Ganh Dau, is also a reasonable choice. This is a zoo and also an animal sanctuary of 380 hectares, currently caring for more than 2,000 individuals of 140 extremely rare wild animal species.
If visitors prefer the simple local culture, destinations such as Ho Quoc Pagoda, Dinh Cau, Duong Dong night market, pearl farms, pepper gardens or sim gardens are all ideal places to visit.
