Recently, the Government has amended and supplemented a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam. Specifically, the amendment states: "Phu Quoc has an international airport, a separate space, a defined geographical boundary, separate from the mainland, in accordance with the socio-economic development policy and does not harm the national defense, security, order and social safety of Vietnam. These are the prerequisites for applying the visa exemption policy for foreigners entering the island."

Accordingly, tourists and foreign citizens coming to Phu Quoc will be exempted from 30-day visas. This new law takes effect from July 1, 2020. Here, tourists will be able to participate in outdoor activities such as: sunbathing, relaxing, playing water sports on beautiful beaches and being tested for Covid-19 periodically throughout the vacation.

Businesses in the coastal economic zone said that this visa exemption policy will create conditions for Phu Quoc tourism and economy to develop in accordance with the advantages and potential that the pearl island has.

Currently, Phu Quoc is in the process of recovering the international tourism market after the Covid-19 epidemic. Experts believe that the pearl island will be an ideal location for isolated tourism products, that is, bringing international tourists to designated resorts on charter flights.
