Recently, the Government amended and supplemented several articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam. Specifically, the amendment states: "Phu Quoc has an international airport, a separate area, a defined geographical boundary, is isolated from the mainland, is consistent with socio-economic development policies, and does not harm national defense, national security, or social order and safety of Vietnam. These are prerequisite conditions for applying the visa exemption policy for foreigners entering the island."

Accordingly, tourists and foreign citizens visiting Phu Quoc will be granted a 30-day visa exemption. This new law takes effect from July 1, 2020. Here, tourists will be able to participate in outdoor activities such as sunbathing, relaxing, and playing water sports on beautiful beaches, and will undergo regular Covid-19 testing throughout their stay.

Businesses in the coastal economic zone say that this visa exemption policy will create favorable conditions for tourism and the economy of Phu Quoc to develop in a way that is worthy of the advantages and potential that the pearl island possesses.

Currently, Phu Quoc is in the process of recovering its international tourism market after the Covid-19 pandemic. Experts believe that the island will be an ideal location for secluded tourism products, meaning bringing international tourists to designated resorts on charter flights.
