Proposal to waive visa requirements for citizens of countries where the pandemic has ended.

01/06/2020

The Tourism Advisory Council has proposed that the Government consider waiving visa requirements for citizens of countries where the Covid-19 pandemic has ended.

Mr. Hoang Nhan Chinh, Head of the Secretariat of the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), said that Vietnam has now been able to control Covid-19. In upcoming marketing and promotional activities, Vietnam could consider a slogan such as "Vietnam - A Safe Destination," because safety is what makes tourists feel secure during this period.

Mr. Chinh also suggested that if Vietnam were to reopen its borders, it should only do so with countries that are safe from the pandemic. The TAB (Transit-Oriented Association of Asia) proposed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly discuss criteria for countries considered safe from the pandemic, and develop a strict process for welcoming international tourists from these countries to Vietnam. This process would ensure that the disease does not enter Vietnam, while still facilitating travel for tourists from countries that are safe from Covid-19 and have a desire to travel.
