Carry-on baggage regulations of domestic airlines

Each airline has different regulations regarding carry-on baggage. Understanding these regulations will help you avoid unnecessary trouble.

Vietnam Airlines

Business Class passengers are allowed to carry 2 pieces of hand luggage, Economy Class passengers are allowed to carry 1 piece. Each piece of hand luggage must not weigh more than 7 kg and have total three dimensions of 56 x 36 x 23 cm.

In addition to your main carry-on baggage, you may bring one of the following items on board:

- A handbag, a woman's purse or briefcase, which must not be packaged as a piece of luggage, will be counted as one piece of baggage.

- A coat, blanket or scarf.

- An umbrella or a walking stick (except those with a stick or a handle with a metal tip).

- A laptop, a small camera or binoculars.

- A moderate number of books and reading materials.

- Children's food for use on the plane.

- Baby crib.

- Foldable handcart.

- A pair of wooden crutches, prosthetic limbs.

- Restricted items for transport

Jetstar Airlines

Each passenger (except infants) is allowed to carry one large and one small carry-on baggage with a total weight of 7 to 10 kg (depending on the type of ticket purchased). Passengers traveling with an infant may bring baby food on board. If a seat is booked for the infant, baby carriages are also allowed.

The maximum dimensions of a large carry-on bag are 23cm (height) + 36cm (width) + 56cm (length) for a handbag or suitcase. For a garment bag or cloth bag, the maximum dimensions when opened are 11cm (height) + 60cm (width) + 114cm (length).

Small baggage may include a small handbag, wallet, coat, umbrella or shopping bag purchased in the airport duty-free shop (for international flights).

Vietjet Air

Each passenger (except infants) is allowed to carry 1 main piece of hand luggage and 1 small piece of hand luggage with a maximum total weight not exceeding 7 kg. The dimensions of the luggage are as follows:

- 1 main carry-on baggage with maximum dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm

- 1 small carry-on bag (including: 1 women's handbag or books, magazines, cameras, baby food bags, airport shopping bags... with dimensions not exceeding 30cm x 20cm x 10cm / 1 coat bag with maximum dimensions when opened not exceeding 114cm x 60cm x 11cm / 1 laptop bag with maximum dimensions of 40cm x 30cm x 10cm)

In addition to the specific regulations on hand luggage of each airline, there are general regulations. For example, if your luggage is oversized, it may be refused to be transported and you will have to check it in and pay a fee (with low-cost airlines or excess baggage). In addition, when connecting with other airlines, the regulations on hand luggage may be different. Therefore, you should find out information about the regulations on hand luggage of each carrier.

Items prohibited in carry-on baggage or on your person when boarding an aircraft include knives, sharp objects, cutting tools, sewing needles. All types of matches, lighters, gas lighters of all types or sports equipment. These items must be carefully packaged and placed in checked baggage. Government-mandated limits on certain liquids, aerosols and glues will be checked at security screening points at Vietnam airports.
