Stemming from a spirit of exploring the uniqueness of the region, Renaissance Hotels – one of the 30 hotel brands of the global Marriott Bonvoy group – officially announces its annual “Global Discovery Day” event, taking place on May 18, 2023.
Global Day of Discovery took place in Ho Chi Minh City on May 18, 2023, organized by Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon.
On this day, more than 170 Renaissance-branded hotels worldwide will come together to offer enhanced experiences for guests, highlighting the unique way the brand creates unexpected discoveries that transcend conventional travel practices and innovations.
“Today, travelers are always looking for a genuine connection with the local community, and our hotel chain is proud to have always focused on celebrating the unique culture of the communities where we operate. We will enhance local cultural values through unique and creative moments, aiming to surprise guests at every step of their journey,” shared Alex Schoell, General Manager of Renaissance Riverside Saigon.
Tourists are excited to explore the beauty of Saigon through the experience of riding a double-decker bus.
The journey begins with a double-decker bus ride through familiar yet unfamiliar parts of the city. The final destination will be the Roast House headquarters, where attendees will learn about the standard Vietnamese coffee processing process from planting and harvesting to processing and packaging. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the different flavor profiles of coffee beans and learn how to enjoy a truly authentic Vietnamese cup of coffee.
After a cozy lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant, attendees will enjoy a Water Puppet show at the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre in the Saigon Zoo. This is an opportunity to bring a unique experience of this distinctive art form to international tourists as well as those living in Saigon who have not yet had the chance to experience this cultural beauty.

The highlight of the Discovery Day program was the interaction and participation in a painting activity with young street artist Nguyen Tan Luc, also known by his artistic name Cresk. Nguyen Tan Luc, or Cresk as he is known by his artistic name, has spent more than 10 years pursuing graffiti art.
Young artist Cresk shared this during the program.
The ideas for his works are often drawn from ordinary everyday things, focusing on cultural themes and the spiritual beauty of Vietnamese people, especially Vietnamese women. “Graffiti is inherently free, unrestrained, and not bound by any rules, just like my own personality. I empathize with and easily absorb that spirit of graffiti. For me, creating art therefore becomes natural and unconstrained,” Lực shared.
In this art experience program, participants have the opportunity to "play the role" of artists continuing Cresk's work. Under the guidance of the young artist, everyone will continue painting on the completed works using acrylic paint. A beautiful and unique graffiti artwork, according to Cresk, is when multiple layers of color and brushstrokes are layered on top of each other. This embodies the free and unrestrained spirit of graffiti, and also reflects the Global Day of Discovery program's desire to "bring unexpected discoveries that transcend conventional norms."
Dinner at Viet Kitchen restaurant - a highlight of the Global Day of Discovery program.
At the end of the day, attendees enjoyed a dinner at the hotel's Viet Kitchen restaurant. In addition to uniquely arranged food stalls representing different regions of Vietnam, guests also discovered unique cocktails inspired by the "Evenings at Renaissance" program, crafted from characteristic Vietnamese ingredients such as guava leaves, passion fruit, and Da Lat mulberries.
