Journey to enjoy a world of its own
Solo camping is the act of camping alone. This means going to a place to explore nature without any friends or family. The history of solo camping dates back to the 1800s when people hunted for food to survive. The idea was popularized in 1952 by Henry David Thoreau, who wrote about his experience camping alone. He found that it made him more resourceful, careful, and self-reliant.
The trend of solo camping is on the rise and this wave is spreading to many countries around the world, including Vietnam. Unlike setting up tents, organizing meals and socializing with friends and family, many people choose to enjoy camping alone.

Camping alone meets the need to go out and breathe fresh air of everyone, especially young people. This activity becomes attractive because we can spend time relaxing in nature, thinking and doing whatever we want without having to worry about disturbing anyone else.
Everyone has their own way of enjoying their alone time. Some people like to cook, others focus on decorating their tent, doing sports, going for walks, or simply reading a book and sipping their homemade coffee.

Relaxing experience in a peaceful setting
Camping has been featured in media such as movies, comics, TV shows or vlog videos, attracting a large number of people. This has encouraged many people to join camping and share their experiences.
As a youtuber who specializes in sharing solo camping videos, Mr. Lu Hoang Thong (30 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) said: "The inspiration for the idea of solo camping comes from the camping videos I often watch on youtube by Japanese and Korean friends."
Solo camping is a way to find the inner side of the soul, alone with the vast and immense nature.
Mr. Thong is a person who is passionate about outdoor activities close to nature. In the past, he often had camping trips with his friends but it was difficult to arrange the schedule because everyone was busy.
For the past three years, Thong has found joy in camping alone. This is a way to find the inner side of his soul, alone with the vast and immense nature. Because he is proactive in terms of time, whenever he feels like it, he packs up his backpack and goes, so there are months when Thong travels 4 to 5 times.

The ideal place to choose for camping is the forest with poetic and romantic scenery, isolated from the outside and quiet enough to listen to the sounds of nature.

With the desire to preserve memories of solo camping trips and promote the beautiful natural landscapes of Vietnam, Mr. Thong recorded his own camping and cooking activities in ASMR style, without dubbing like other vlog videos. The videos attracted thousands of followers because of the natural, authentic sounds and images.
Temporarily leaving the noisy, dusty city to immerse himself in the wilderness, Mr. Thong usually limits the use of modern technology and returns to a simple life, close to nature.
When camping alone, Mr. Thong has more time to enjoy the cool green mountain scenery with the treetops still covered in dew, breathe the fresh air, listen to the sound of falling rain or the babbling stream... Besides, immersing himself in nature is seen as a way to slow down, enter a world of freedom and peace.

Those tasks are as simple as setting up a tent to stay overnight, picking up branches to light a fire, cooking a few light dishes, reading a good book and sipping a cup of homemade coffee... All of this is only possible when immersed in the poetic, lyrical, quiet and gentle scenery of the vast mountains and forests.

Talking about the most memorable camping trip, Mr. Thong shared: “The most memorable was probably the time I went camping in the pine forest in Da Lat when it was raining. As expected, camping in the pine forest during the rainy season was extremely interesting. The raindrops falling on the tent roof created a very gentle, pleasant sound. I even used rainwater to boil tea. And like always, I cooked breakfast and enjoyed a peaceful scene early in the morning.”
According to Mr. Thong, the best time to camp is from the afternoon of the previous day to the morning of the next day, when you can watch the sunset and sunrise, the two most beautiful times of the day.

Unlike other vacations, solo camping requires you to prepare your own accommodation and meals. This requires you to be fully equipped with camping skills and tools. “The things I usually bring include: tents, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, food, water and a camera. I think everything is very important for a camping trip,” the youtuber said.

Sharing more with Travellive readers, Mr. Thong sent a message: “My advice to young people who want to go solo camping is to equip themselves with good skills, exercise and nurture their passion for camping. I hope you will always preserve and protect nature, leave only footprints and bring back beautiful photos and videos as souvenirs.”
