New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the return of the 2022 New Year's Eve celebration in person at Times Square this year, after a year of holding a virtual event due to pandemic concerns. "We want to welcome hundreds of thousands of people to this event," the Mayor said, "All you need to do is have proof of vaccination and bring your personal identification."
Last year, the New Year's celebration was held on a small scale, and people had to welcome the new year through their screens.
During a press conference to celebrate the return of the live New Year's Eve event on the night of December 31, 2021, Tom Harris, head of the Times Square Alliance, issued a requirement that all attendees aged 5 and older must present proof of vaccination. Additionally, those unable to receive the vaccine due to medical reasons must present a negative PCR test result from within 72 hours.
Additionally, children under 5 years old must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult. All unvaccinated individuals must wear masks throughout the event.
Many people eagerly await the moment the giant ball is dropped on New Year's Eve. According to tradition, the ball, suspended from a pole, will slide down in front of the audience at precisely 11:59 PM, marking the beginning of the new year.
Upon receiving this news, many people were extremely excited, with some living elsewhere even hastily booking flights to attend this major New York event. The New Year's Eve ball drop is a traditional event held in Times Square. Before the pandemic, this event attracted many people from all over the world.
"People will be immersed in the atmosphere of the crowd, sharing in the joy, and witnessing a historic moment as we demonstrate to the world that New York has returned to normal life," said Blasio.
