Thailand to charge tourist fees after September

24/04/2023

Thailand's Tourism and Sports Minister Ratchakitprakarn recently confirmed that the collection of tourism fees will not be delayed beyond September.

In addition, the Ministry also plans to ask provincial police to support tourism police in activities to eliminate "zero-dong" tours and illegal tourism. The above plans are aimed at restoring the tourism industry of the land of golden pagodas.

Thailand is expected to collect a tourist fee of 300 baht (about 205 thousand VND) for foreign visitors arriving by air and 150 baht (more than 100 thousand VND) for visitors arriving by land and sea. About 60 to 70% of the collected fees will be used to develop new tourist destinations and upgrade infrastructure for public services.

Thailand aims to welcome 25 million tourists this year.

The Thai government has long considered imposing an entry fee on foreign tourists, but the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the introduction of the fee. However, according to travel agencies, the imposition of an entry fee could affect the target of attracting about 30 million international tourists this year, nearly three times higher than last year.
