Following the approval of the Ministry of Interior, the People's Councils at all levels in Quang Binh province unanimously voted to establish Phong Nha town based on the entire area of Son Trach commune, with the current Phong Nha tourist center as its central hub.
Phong Nha town has a total natural area of 99.4 hectares, a population of 12,475 people, and unique natural landscapes.
Son Trach commune is home to famous caves such as Phong Nha, Tien Son, and Tra Ang, as well as tourist attractions like Tam Co Cave and the botanical garden. In terms of transportation, two branches of the Ho Chi Minh Highway (East and West) run through the area.
For many years, Phong Nha - Ke Bang has become the top tourist destination in Quang Binh province.
The establishment of Phong Nha town aims to ensure the conditions for developing this area into a key tourism center of the province, and to exploit more of the caves, ecology, etc., of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
