At the 6th Global Geoparks Conference held in Canada last September, the world had 11 more recognized locations.

With these 11 new locations, the world now has 111 global geoparks in 32 countries. The newly listed locations are actually areas that have been known for many years, possibly areas with beautiful landscapes, or attracting tourists.

The most special in the list of recognized geoparks at this 6th Conference are Aso Volcano in Japan; Kunlun Mountain in China; El Hierro Island, Spain... These parks are special not because the geological layer here has a longer history than other places, but because in addition to the special values of geology, geomorphology and history, these parks are also famous tourist destinations, widely known around the world.

Specifically, the list of 11 new geoparks includes:

1.Aso Volcano in Japan:

Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan and one of the oldest in the world. Located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, although the mountain no longer erupts today, white smoke still billows from its crater. This is what makes Aso unique and attracts many tourists. When visiting Aso volcano, visitors can climb to the top and get close to the crater, of course there will be some protection measures for visitors against gas that may rise from the crater. To ensure safety in the Aso crater sightseeing area, there is always a notice board about the gas rise and the weather of the day. The information is displayed by 4 different colored lights. A yellow light indicates that the weather is bad and the amount of gas rising from the crater exceeds the allowable limit. At that time, the crater area will be temporarily closed. Aso volcano is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Japan. Every year, this scenic spot welcomes about 2 million tourists from all over the world.
