Has anyone ever had a hard time trying to sleep in an airplane seat and had to make do with a sweater or scarf as a pillow?
While current aircraft seat designs use adjustable headrests, older designs proved difficult to use due to the uneven heights of passengers. A new seat design has creatively solved this problem by removing the overhead headrest and using “cushion wings” that fold out from behind the sides of the seat back – allowing the occupant more privacy and a cushioned place to rest their head.

This new idea, called "Interspace", was introduced by design firm New Territory at the Aircraft Cabin Innovation 2019 Conference in London recently.
Interspace is the brainchild of Luke Miles, founder and creative director of New Territory. Luke Miles says he noticed that aircraft cabin designs often focused on first-class experiences, so he wanted to come up with a design that was comfortable for the economy segment.

By creating a pair of wings on both sides of the seat, this design will create privacy and a comfortable support for the occupant. The Interspace wings are designed to fold manually, allowing users to easily manipulate and be flexible when using. One or both wings can be used depending on the user's needs. In addition, Luke Miles affirmed that the "wings" he designed can be installed on most existing seats on current aircraft.
Luke Miles claims the wings he designed can be installed on most existing seats on current aircraft.
This design is really a solution for personal space on planes, especially on long-haul flights. "Hopefully, travelers will have a better night's rest, a better flight!" - Miles shared.
