Has anyone ever struggled to sleep on an airplane seat and had to make do with a sweater or scarf as a pillow?
Although current airplane seat designs utilize adjustable headrests, older designs proved difficult to use due to users' varying heights. A new seat design offers an innovative solution to this problem by eliminating the overhead headrest and using foldable "wings" that extend from the back of the seat – allowing occupants more privacy and a cushioned position for head support.

This new concept, called "Interspace," was unveiled by the design firm New Territory at the Aircraft Cabin Innovation 2019 conference in London.
Interspace is the brainchild of Luke Miles, founder and creative director of New Territory. Luke Miles stated that he noticed aircraft cabin designs often focused on first-class experiences, so he wanted to create a design that was truly comfortable for economy class passengers.

By creating a pair of wings on either side of the seat, this design provides privacy and comfortable support for the occupant. The Interspace's wings are designed to fold manually, allowing for easy operation and flexibility. One or both wings can be used depending on user needs. Furthermore, Luke Miles claims that his "wings" can be installed on most existing aircraft seats.
Luke Miles claims that the wings he designed can be fitted to most existing seats on current aircraft.
This design is truly a solution for personal space on airplanes, especially on long-haul flights. "Hopefully, passengers will get a better night's rest and a better flight!" - Miles shared.
