WSP engineers – the team behind famous buildings such as The Shard and Burj Khalifa – have collaborated with architects Innovative Imperative to create the Tetra Hotel.

The location for the hotel has not yet been announced, but Cape Verde, Canada, New Zealand and the UK are all listed as options.

Tetra Hotel is designed as a green hotel, committed to using only materials and energy sources that are not harmful to the environment, such as using seawater for cooling or using solar panels as a power source.

Have you ever seen an 18th-century Alsatian house perched atop a 14-story skyscraper? That’s exactly what French designer Philippe Starck has planned for Mertz’s first luxury hotel project. The project, which has been described by industry insiders as a “dream design beyond imagination,” will feature a rooftop terrace, gardens, 119 rooms, a fitness center, a restaurant, and a lounge bar.

Kosmos Hotel is built on an extremely beautiful location right on the promontory of Ulleungdo Island, with a direct view of the vast blue ocean but still does not destroy the natural landscape of the island thanks to its very special design. The two buildings of the hotel are designed in a minimalist style with the main colors being white and gray, high ceilings, and an egg-shaped exterior. The idea when designing Kosmos Hotel by architect Chanjong Kim is that the entire architecture can harmonize with the natural landscape and receive the energy from the island.

Svart (which means “black” in Norwegian) is located at the foot of the Almlifjellet mountain and has a very unique shape, resembling an extraterrestrial cruiser. The design was inspired by “fiskehjell” – a wooden tool used to dry fish, while the house’s pillars are structured like “rorbuer” – a type of wooden hut used by fishermen on glaciers. In addition to creating an ideal place to watch the aurora, the architects of the Svart hotel also aimed to create a place that can bring positive energy to those who come to stay here.

Mirrorcube, true to its name, has a cubic shape and is covered with glass that captures the entire image of the outside scenery, just like a mirror placed in the middle of the forest.

The 7th Room is the tallest “tree” house with a zigzag ladder-shaped design that resembles a rope, adding to the unique style of the house. Thanks to the height of the house, visitors can admire the aurora from the window.

The hotel is now in operation, visitors can learn more and book rooms through the official website:http://www.treehotel.se/en/

7. Aurora Station, outer space

Perhaps no hotel could be more futuristic than the Aurora Space Station Hotel. Houston-based Orion Span has developed a modular space station into a hotel, and is expected to welcome guests in 2022. Visitors are expected to pay a pretty penny (around $9.5 million per person) for the 12-day trip. The space station will orbit the Earth every 90 minutes, allowing visitors to see 16 sunrises and sunsets a day, as well as the aurora borealis.

8. Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam, Netherlands

From the outside, Inntel does not seem as luxurious or groundbreaking as previous designs, but this 4-star hotel in Amsterdam has "attached" to its facade boxes imitating typical architectural works of the Zaan region such as the notary's house, the worker's cottage or "The Blue House". "The Blue House" is a painting that the famous artist Claude Monet painted of a small street corner in Zaandam in 1871 and the blue house appearing in the painting has become a symbol of this region.

9. Hotel des Horlogers, Switzerland

The phrase ski-in/ski-out is probably familiar to those who love skiing, but the word “ski-on” may be confusing to many people. Designed by Danish architectural group Bjarke Ingels Group under the order of Swiss watch brand Audemars Piguet, Hôtel des Horlogers will create a zig-zag slope that extends from the roof to the ground floor of the hotel, so that visitors can just put on their skates and “go”. And when the snow melts, those slopes will be covered with green grass.
