During a surprise trip to Rach Gia - Ha Tien to satisfy his love for seafood, Huy Bao (29 years old, from Dong Thap) unexpectedly had a memorable opportunity to visit Phu Dung Ancient Temple.
"I came to Ha Tien without any specific plan; it was just a spontaneous trip I made with my best friend. And yet, that unexpected trip led me to Phu Dung Ancient Temple, a tranquil stop amidst the riverine landscape," Huy Bao shared about his serendipitous visit to this ancient temple.

Phù Dung Pagoda, also known as Phù Cừ Pagoda, is located at the foot of Bình San Mountain, Bình San Ward, Hà Tiên City, Kiên Giang Province.
Unique architecture and relaxing atmosphere
Huy Bao's first impression of Phu Dung Ancient Temple was its elaborate and exquisite architecture. “The temple has a very unique beauty, blending traditional style with modern details. Small pathways wind around the temple, where the harmonious combination of yellow, orange, brown, and green hues of the trees creates an incredibly peaceful and pleasant atmosphere,” he described. Indeed, Phu Dung Ancient Temple is not only a place of worship, but also a prominent architectural highlight in the area, showcasing a blend of nature and the skillful hands of man.

Despite undergoing several renovations, the place still retains its distinctive ancient architecture.
The pagoda is located right at the foot of Binh San Mountain, a sacred mountain in the Ha Tien region. Huy Bao further shared: “Behind the pagoda is a path leading up the mountain, from where you can look down at the pagoda grounds, listen to the birds singing, and enjoy the cool breeze. That scenery makes me feel peaceful, as if all the worries of life have temporarily subsided.”
Mysterious legends and historical allure
The ancient Phù Dung Temple is not only attractive for its architectural beauty but also for its mysterious historical stories. While there, Huy Bảo heard the legend of the love story between Governor Mạc Thiên Tích and Ái Cơ – a beautiful but tragic tale.
Due to the jealousy of the first wife, Ai Co was imprisoned in an overturned pot for a long time. Although she miraculously survived, she later decided to become a nun because she was disillusioned with worldly life. After her death, the Governor-General had a pot-shaped tomb built to commemorate their love story.

This place not only holds spiritual significance but also boasts many picturesque landscapes, helping visitors find peace of mind.
"When a monk at the temple mentioned this story, I found it very interesting. Every region has its own unique story, and Phu Dung Ancient Temple is no exception. That made me love this temple even more," he said.
These anecdotes enriched Huy Bao's experience. The temple is not only a place for contemplation but also a living testament to history, containing cultural beauties that cannot fade over time.

Nature blends with spirituality.
For Huy Bao, another special feature of Phu Dung Ancient Temple is the perfect blend of architecture and nature. “The temple has a very large and airy space, suitable for those who like to stroll and admire the scenery. The pathways around the temple are surrounded by greenery and flowers, making me feel close to nature,” Huy Bao expressed.
Although he didn't participate in the typical religious activities at the temple, he still clearly felt the sacredness and peace. "I only lit incense in the main hall, but with the quiet atmosphere and the echoing sound of the temple bells, it was an unforgettable experience," he added.

Inside the temple, many precious Buddha statues, paintings, and artifacts are still preserved.
An ideal destination for travelers who love meditation.
For those seeking a tranquil retreat, Huy Bao asserts that Phu Dung Ancient Temple is a must-visit destination. “With all the feelings I experienced, Phu Dung Ancient Temple is truly a worthwhile place to visit. It would be an ideal destination for those who love meditation and spiritual tourism,” he said.
For tourists planning to visit Phu Dung Ancient Temple in their itinerary, Huy Bao advises: "You should choose polite, modest clothing and comfortable shoes for easy movement. You can visit here most months of the year, except during the rainy season in the Mekong Delta."
