Panel discussion: "Paris, sustainable city?"

At the seminar “Paris, sustainable city?”, four experts working in the field of architecture and urban planning will discuss the Grand Paris project as well as relate it to ongoing projects and challenges in Vietnam.

Grand Paris is a project that was initiated about 15 years ago with the aim of improving the living conditions of nearly 12 million people living in Paris and its surrounding areas, overcoming land inequalities as well as building a sustainable city. That is, a city of tomorrow, efficient, low energy consumption, environmentally friendly and oriented towards the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Mr. Emmanuel Cerise

Within the framework of this cooperation program, the old French villa located in the center of Hanoi is being restored and renovated to become a center for French cultural exchange in Hanoi, where heritage lovers can learn about the formation of the French Quarter in Hanoi, the influences and cultural exchanges between France and Vietnam during the first half of the 20th century. At the discussion "Paris, a sustainable city?", Mr. Emmanuel Cerise, as Director of PRX-Vietnam - a cooperation program between the Île-de-France Region of France and the Hanoi People's Committee, will present the restoration of this villa, as a typical example of preserving and promoting heritage.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duy

Graduated from ENSA - Paris La Villette, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duy founded a company specializing in planning and project construction in France and in Vietnam. He also started collaborating with DE-SO and became the director of DE-SO ASIA after returning to Vietnam. Currently, he is a consultant on Vietnamese and European architecture. He collaborates on many public projects and with the Swiss company G8A Architecture - Planning.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duy will share about research projects on public space planning in Thu Thiem and the new central area in Son Tay - Hanoi, especially the importance of connecting the central area with the extended urban area.

Mr. Laurent Perrin

To share the stages in the process of building new cities, and at the same time give a comparative view of regional planning in Paris and Hanoi. The panel invited architect and urban planner - Mr. Laurent Perrin. He is the head of major projects of the Institut Paris Region. He has more than 30 years of experience in urban and regional planning. Since 2013, he has been working regularly in Hanoi, for PRX-Vietnam, Hanoi Urban Planning Institute (HUPI) and Vietnam Institute for Urban and Rural Planning (VIUP).

Mr. Eric Gratton

Having graduated as an engineer, Mr. Eric Gratton has always worked in urban and transport projects. He has worked in many places around the world (Europe, Asia, Africa), participating in many projects, from the research stage to the implementation stage of transport infrastructure. He is currently the General Director of Artelia Vietnam.

Mr. Eric Gratton will be one of four speakers at the panel discussion “Paris, a sustainable city?”

In addition, the discussion will be led by Dr. Nguyen Cam Duong Ly - Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture (Faculty of Planning, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture). In 2013, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on Urban and Spatial Planning at Paris-Est University (France). Not only that, she has participated in many research and design projects in the fields of heritage conservation, landscape and urban planning. In 2021, she and DE-SO Asia Architectural Office (France) won the Special Prize of the Vietnam National Urban Planning Award.
