Authorities dismantled a ring producing fake Covid-19 "green cards" in Italy.

Recently, Italy discovered and dismantled a large-scale counterfeit "Green Pass" ring, shortly after the government mandated that citizens must present their Green Pass to participate in social activities.

Police, media, and prosecutors in Rome, Milan, and Bari have collaborated on a large-scale "Fake Pass" operation to curb the online sale of counterfeit green cards. Authorities raided and arrested administrators of 32 Telegram channels specializing in forging these digital certificates.

According to initial investigations, thousands of people registered to purchase fake green cards through these Telegram channels. After users provided information about their name, address, and health insurance card, these Telegram channels would proceed to create fake digital Covid-19 certificates at prices ranging from 150 to 500 euros (equivalent to 4 to 13 million VND).

The trade in counterfeit green cards has boomed in Italy after the government approved the new policy.Decree implementing digital certification for Covid-19Accordingly, starting August 6th, people will be required to present their cards at bars, restaurants, gyms, swimming pools, accommodation establishments, and other crowded event centers.

Furthermore, from September 1st, all faculty, students, and citizens will be required to present their green card when returning to school and using public transport. Those without Covid-19 certification may face fines of up to 400 euros (approximately 12 million VND).
