"Snow" made of cotton: Tourists disillusioned at China's ice and snow festival.

The Altai Fengtaihang Snow Village, located in the Baoquan Scenic Area (Xinxiang, China), has become the focus of criticism after being discovered to be using dishonest tactics to attract tourists. Instead of offering an authentic winter experience with pristine white snow, the tourist area brazenly used cotton wool and white sand to create artificial snow.

In a video that went viral on social media, a tourist took their child to the Altai Fengtaihang Snow Village only to discover that the snow there was made of artificial materials, not natural snow. "How am I going to explain this to my child?" the disappointed person expressed. The vast difference between what was advertised and reality has severely damaged tourists' trust.

The Baoquan tourist area in Xinxiang, one of Henan's prominent tourist destinations, has caused a stir with its promotional campaign for a snow and ice festival filled with rather unrealistic promises. According to China Press, starting on December 8th, the tourist area's social media accounts continuously praised their "snow" with surreal characteristics: not cold, not melting, not slippery, and incredibly clean. However, the harsh truth was quickly revealed when tourists discovered that the "snow" was merely an artificial product, completely contrary to what had been advertised.

The Altai Fengtaihang Snow Village in the Baoquan Scenic Area (Xinxiang, China) has been accused of scamming tourists.

This incident has raised serious questions about the integrity of the Baoquan tourist area management. The deliberate omission of mention of the use of artificial snow in advertising, instead using flowery language to praise a perfect type of "snow," reveals an intention to deceive customers for profit.

Following public outrage over the use of artificial snow, the Baoquan tourist area management issued a rather vague statement. They confirmed that the snow and ice festival had not officially opened. However, the creation of artificial snow landscapes in the Altay style for tourists to take photos had already begun.

The Baoquan tourist area advertised a "snow and ice festival," but upon arrival, visitors discovered that the snow was entirely artificial.

Following public criticism regarding the use of artificial snow, representatives from the Baoquan tourist area offered an explanation. According to them, due to unfavorable weather conditions this year, the area did not experience natural snowfall. To meet the needs of tourists, especially young people, the tourist area decided to create an artificial winter space, allowing people to experience and take photos with snow. This is considered a temporary solution to meet the entertainment needs of visitors.
