The information was published in the nutrition journal Nutrients by researchers from Northwestern University. According to the study, the research team surveyed the diets of over 40,000 adults in the UK to examine the correlation between foods such as coffee, tea, meat, and fish, and the risk of contracting Covid-19.
The results showed that people who drank at least one cup of coffee a day had a 10% lower risk of contracting Covid-19 compared to those who did not drink coffee.

Scientists point out that coffee contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory substances, which are very good for health when consumed in the right dosage. Regularly drinking coffee may also reduce the risk of pneumonia in the elderly.
The research has been conducted from 2006 to the present. Previously, a research team at Northwestern University found a correlation between coffee consumption and inflammatory biomarkers such as CRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor I (TNF-I). Since 2020, scientists have shifted their research to examine the potential of coffee in boosting the immune system against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Besides coffee, increasing the consumption of green vegetables and limiting processed meats may also help reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19, according to research.
However, scientists also advise people to maintain a balanced diet to ensure good health. Dr. Vivek Jha, a senior consultant at Fortis Hospital (India), recommends not drinking more than 3-4 cups of coffee per day.
