From the end of June to August 2022, several domestic flight routes, such as those from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon, and Da Lat, generated significant interest and were among the most popular destinations with the fastest ticket sales this summer.
Ms. Nguyen Hoa (Long Bien, Hanoi) said that she booked plane tickets for her whole family, including 4 adults and 2 children, to Phu Quoc in mid-July, but the high airfare, plus the cost of 3-4 star hotel rooms, not including food, amounted to nearly 30-35 million VND.
Ms. Hoa said that Vietjet's cheapest round-trip ticket from Hanoi to Phu Quoc costs over 3.7 million VND per person, meaning a family of six would spend nearly 19 million VND on tickets. At the same time, during previous summer travel seasons, tickets for six people would only cost around 9-12 million VND.
Phu Quoc is a popular destination for many tourists.
Airline ticket agents confirm that it's difficult to find discounted tickets during the summer months. Even if there are only 1-2 seats available at a low price, adding taxes and fees can still bring the total cost to millions of dong. "Gasoline prices have risen sharply, so there's no way airlines will lower ticket prices. The closer to the departure date you buy, the more expensive the ticket will be. To proactively choose a reasonable flight time and price, passengers need to buy tickets early," shared Ms. Ngoc Lan, an airline ticket agent.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan, General Director of Flamingo Redtours, said that during the summer, the number of domestic tourists increased 3-4 times compared to the past two years. In particular, this summer saw a boom in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) groups, with large numbers ranging from several hundred to several thousand people.
In May alone, the company provided services to over 30,000 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) clients. This number continued to increase sharply in June and July. For example, in July, Flamingo Redtours served large groups, some with up to 2,500 people. Popular destinations for MICE clients include Sam Son (Thanh Hoa), Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Phu Quoc, and Da Nang…
Statistics from companies such as Saigontourist, TST Tourist, and Vietravel show a sharp increase in group tours both domestically and internationally, including Phu Quoc, Northeast and Northwest Vietnam, Da Nang, Dubai, and Thailand. In particular, summer tour prices have edged up compared to the end of the first quarter of 2022 (up 5-7% on some high-demand routes). Prices for many other services in the tourism supply chain have also increased by 10-30%.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the first five months of the year, Vietnam received 365,300 international visitors, 4.5 times more than the same period last year; domestic tourists reached approximately 48.6 million; and total revenue from tourism is estimated at 211,000 billion VND.
