Recently, InterNations released the Expat Insider 2021 survey, evaluating and ranking the best destinations for expats to live and work. More than 12,000 people participated in the survey, with issues related to quality of life, convenience of settling in, working environment, personal finance and cost of living in their respective countries of residence.
This year, respondents were also asked to reflect on their experiences with the Covid-19 pandemic and how it has affected their lifestyle abroad. Here is a list of the Top 10 places to live away from home in 2021.
10. Vietnam
Coming in at number 10 on the list is Vietnam. The country is described as ideal for expats who want to save money but still ensure a full life. Vietnam is also highly rated for its beautiful beaches, delicious food and fascinating culture, making it a great place for anyone looking for new experiences.

9. Canada
Canada is famous for its friendly people and beautiful landscapes. Low population density (only 38 million people in an area of 10 million km2) making this place an ideal location during the period of “social distancing”.

8. Ecuador
The South American country is rich in history, home to one of the world's oldest civilizations, with pyramids and many UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Galapagos Islands and the city of Quito.

7. Australia
The land of kangaroos is famous for its metropolises such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. The country also owns famous destinations such as Bondi Beach and the Great Barrier Reef. A lively weekend afternoon with a barbecue can be a good idea for expats living in Australia.

6. New Zealand
With its impressive record in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic, it is no surprise that the beautiful country of New Zealand is in the top 10 ideal places for foreigners to live and work. Besides, New Zealand is also a great place to enjoy wine, along with activities at world-class skiing and surfing resorts.

5. Portugal
Foreigners often come to Portugal to enjoy the warm summers, al fresco dining, and beautiful cities. Besides the unique cuisine, this country is also a great place for golfers, with diverse and challenging courses.

4. Malaysia
Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, is one of Southeast Asia's financial and business hubs. The country is also home to a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites, stunning beaches and pristine islands.

3. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a land of tropical beaches and national parks with many rare species of flora and fauna. In addition, the great coffee and “pure lifestyle” of this land also create an attraction for foreigners to live and work.

2. Mexico
Mexico comes in second place out of 59 countries on the list. It is described as a perfect destination, with plenty of delicious food and sunny beaches, plus a rich history still evident in the Mayan temples. There is no dull weekend in Mexico, with a rich variety of landscapes to explore, from rugged mountains, dense rainforests to clear blue waters.

1. Taiwan (China)
Taiwan is voted the best place to live away from home. It is famous for its colorful night markets, free Wi-Fi everywhere, diverse cuisine, and many vegetarian options. It also has one of the best health care systems in the world.
