After a long time of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, on May 16, New York officially loosened its quarantine restrictions. People are allowed to go out of their homes to breathe fresh air and exercise, but must still ensure social distancing.
New Yorkers flock to parks and fail to maintain 2-meter distance
However, the reality is that New Yorkers are not strictly following social distancing. People flock to parks and public areas without keeping a 2 meter distance or wearing masks as required. Because of this situation, Domino Park in Brooklyn, New York has come up with the idea of painting “social distancing circles” on the lawn to ensure safe distancing.

People who visited Domino Park in Brooklyn, New York, over the weekend saw circles drawn on the grass. This meant they couldn’t sit or socialize freely. Everyone was asked to stay in their own safety circle, with a safe distance between the circles to ensure groups weren’t too close together. But everyone seemed to enjoy it and complied willingly.

The interesting scene at Domino Park quickly stirred up local social networks thanks to the videos and images that were actively shared and widely spread. A Twitter account named Jennifer 8. Lee also posted a video recording the interesting scene at the park with the caption: “At Domino Park Brooklyn, the social distancing zones have become “parking lots for people”. She also commented in a later post: “If these images were seen in 2019, we probably would have thought this was a scene from a science fiction TV show and not real life”.
Each circle in Domino Park can accommodate a group of 3-4 people. This social distancing has brought many reasonable effects in the current situation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in New York.
