The decisive factor that makes Ford's smart mobility technology

11/07/2016

Recently, within the framework of the World Mobile Technology Exhibition held in Shanghai - China, Ford introduced many of its new research and inventions on Smart Mobility Technology.

Ford has always emphasized the importance of collaborating with local partners to promote projects to improve the quality of urban mobility services. “Research on smart mobility technology cannot be developed alone, we are collaborating with many strategic partners to be able to launch breakthrough innovations and optimize the ability to solve consumer needs,” said Mr. John Larsen, director of mobility technology research for Ford Asia Pacific, shared at the 2016 World Mobility Exhibition.

For human life

Ford's smart mobility technology helps people connect their lives. Connecting your life can be as simple as easily finding the nearest restaurant in a city you've never been to, or using voice control to open applications on your phone. Or it can be a short call to wish an old friend a happy birthday. With SYNC and FordAppLink, your life will become more enjoyable.

Find new ways to travel

The world is getting busier and more crowded, and old means of transportation are becoming obsolete. Mobility today is no longer just about owning a personal car, but with the advent of ride-hailing apps and ride-sharing programs, people have changed the way they think about owning a car. Cities are becoming more spacious and public transportation seems to be more connected than before. This leads to new modes of transportation being needed to make travel more efficient and sustainable in the future.

Changing the way the world moves

It’s been a long time since the first Model Ts, to the semi-autonomous cars that are now rolling out across the globe. The vision of a fully autonomous car is closer than ever. Ford will be testing these autonomous cars this year. Ford recently conducted its first driverless car tests in snowy conditions and in the dark to explore the capabilities of LiDAR technology: helping cars navigate even in the dark.

Establishing a relationship between producer and consumer

FordPass – a free system that launched this year in North America and is expected to come to Europe, China and Brazil – will help users meet all their mobility needs.

FordPass is for everyone and will bring the following benefits: Providing convenient and easily accessible mobility services such as parking, ride-sharing, carpooling and multi-modal transportation; FordGuides helps solve problems that arise on the trip through a completely free one-on-one consultation service; Exclusive benefits for FordPass members; Customers can learn about Ford's latest innovations and research more about the company's services through FordHubs.

Use data processing and analytics technology to predict customer needs

Data processing technology generates lines of instructions that make Ford's mobility services smarter and more efficient. The Panda Bus Dynamic Shuttle test at MWC Shanghai used algorithms developed by researchers at Tsinghua University to create an intelligent assistant that helps people in Dalian, China, move more conveniently.

“Whether it’s making a call while driving, looking up traffic information or hailing a ride through an app, technology is changing the way we get around,” Larsen said. “At Ford, we’re looking at ways to integrate these advancements into our products to make transportation more convenient and accessible for everyone.”

In early 2016, Ford also announced its plan to become a mobility solutions provider. Ford CEO Mark Fields said that a revolution in transportation is coming due to the increase in the number of megacities, middle-income families, the decline in air quality and the change in the way people move.
