The key factor that makes Ford's intelligent mobility technology so effective.

11/07/2016

Recently, at the Mobile World Exhibition held in Shanghai, China, Ford showcased many of its new research and inventions in Intelligent Mobility Technology.

Ford has consistently emphasized the importance of collaborating with local partners to advance projects that enhance the quality of urban mobility services. “Smart mobility technology research cannot be developed in isolation; we are working with numerous strategic partners to launch groundbreaking innovations and optimize our ability to address consumer needs,” said John Larsen, Director of Mobility Technology Research for Ford Asia Pacific, at the 2016 World Mobility Technology Exhibition.

For the sake of human life

Ford's intelligent mobility technology helps people connect their lives. Connecting lives here can be understood simply as easily finding the nearest restaurant in a city you've never been to, or using voice control to open apps on your phone. Or it could be a short call to wish an old friend a happy birthday. With SYNC and FordAppLink, your life will become more convenient.

Find new modes of transportation.

As the world becomes increasingly busy and crowded, older modes of transportation have become obsolete. Today's transportation is no longer simply about owning a personal vehicle. With the advent of ride-hailing apps and ride-sharing programs, people's thinking about car ownership has changed. Cities are becoming more expansive, and public transportation systems appear to be more interconnected than ever before. This necessitates the development of new modes of transport to ensure more efficient and sustainable travel in the future.

Changing the way the world moves.

Having come a long way, from the first Model T to the semi-autonomous vehicles now rolling off the production line globally, the vision of a fully autonomous vehicle is closer than ever. Ford will be testing these autonomous vehicles this year. Recently, Ford conducted tests on its first self-driving cars in snowy conditions and in the dark to explore the capabilities of LiDAR technology: enabling autonomous navigation even in complete darkness.

Establishing a relationship between producers and consumers.

FordPass – a free system launched this year in North America and later expected to come to Europe, China, and Brazil – helps users meet all their transportation needs.

FordPass is for everyone and offers the following benefits: Convenient and easily accessible transportation services such as parking, ride-sharing, carpooling, and multimodal transport; FordGuides helps resolve travel issues through a completely free, in-person consultation service; Exclusive benefits for FordPass members; Customers can learn about Ford's latest innovations and further research the company's services through FordHubs.

Using data processing and analytics technology to predict customer needs.

Data processing technology generates commands that make Ford's mobility services smarter and more efficient. A mobility experiment on the Panda Bus Dynamic Shuttle at MWC Shanghai utilized an algorithm developed by researchers at Tsinghua University to create an intelligent support tool that helps residents of Dalian, China, travel more conveniently.

“Whether it’s making calls while driving, checking traffic information, or ordering a ride through an app, technology is changing the way we move every day,” said Larsen. “At Ford, we’re researching ways to integrate those advancements into our products, to make transportation more convenient and accessible for everyone.”

In early 2016, Ford also launched its plan to become a provider of mobility solutions. Mark Fields, CEO of Ford, argued that a revolution in mobility was imminent due to the increase in the number of megacities, middle-income families, declining air quality, and changes in how people travel.
