23/08/2022

Below are some art exhibitions for visitors staying in Ho Chi Minh City during the September 2nd holiday. Art activities include various exhibitions with diverse themes, as well as fairs, craft workshops, and more.

Exhibition "In the midst of mirages"

"In the Midst of Illusions" is a series of photographic works by artist Duy Phuong. The exhibition is being held at Vin Gallery and features 44 works. The photographs are a combination of two of Duy Phuong's long-term photography projects: "In the Midst of Illusions" (2010-2017) and "Illusions" (2017-2022).

The works in the "In Between" project emphasize the conflict between the new and the old, between nature and humanity. Meanwhile, the works in "Illusions" adhere to the principles of documentary photography. The photographs are taken spontaneously, without staging or arrangement, yet they are full of subtlety. With these projects, the author does not aim to guide the public towards a specific message or emotional resonance, but rather towards personal perception. Each viewer will see the changes in the landscape or people affected by urbanization through the lens of photography.

The exhibition "Hidden Concept: A Manifesto from the Streets!"

"Hidden Concept: A Manifesto from the Streets!" is a tribute to, honors, and spreads street culture. "Hidden" encapsulates the five fundamental aspects/stages of street culture's origin and development. Stemming from involuntary concealment, street culture is associated with clandestine, unostentatious activities, focusing on a small community with intense passion.

Even much later, when street culture had already dominated the mass market with big-name artists, high-priced shows attracting tens of thousands of spectators, and numerous collections ranging from fashion to art toys launched at exorbitant prices, it still maintained its underlying vitality everywhere. Because only when "hidden" can street culture truly live up to its inherent freedom and spontaneity. This is precisely the story and message that the "Hidden Concept" exhibition aims to convey. The event is being held at AREUS Atelier (District 3).

"BroA" Exhibition

The exhibition features a series of paintings by four young artists at MAY artspace. Artists Vuong The Quan, Pham The Vinh, Hoang Thien Phuc, and sculptor Le Phi Hung are friends who met and formed a private space to freely pursue their personal thoughts on their artistic journey. They call themselves the Bro-active group.

Triển lãm BroA mở cửa từ 26/8 -1/9.

The BroA exhibition is open from August 26th to September 1st.

The Vinh and Thien Phuc both pursue a pop-art style, using vibrant colors and mixed media. However, the stories they present are distinctly contrasting. The Quan's work is quite different; it's also a story, but created within his own surreal world—a chessboard—with characters who are both someone and nobody. This isn't a new image, and it already carries significant allusions to contemporary issues.
