Visit Mount Rigi

Mount Rigi rises 1,797 meters above Lake Lucerne and is considered the symbol of Lucerne. Europe's first mountain railway was built here in 1871 and has attracted many visitors to admire the spectacular and sacred landscape of Mount Rigi. There are many different ways to approach and experience this mountain. The most interesting is the classic paddle-wheel train journey from Lucerne to Vitznau, then take the train to Rigi Kulm - the highest peak of the Rigi range. Visitors will enjoy unforgettable moments on the trails, visit cafes and enjoy the panoramic view from the top of the mountain. Then, visitors take the train back to Rigi Kaltbad, change to a taxi down to Weggis and finally take the boat back to Lucerne.

The Lucerne culinary journey combines an elegant evening cruise around the lake by steamboat and two of Switzerland's best dishes: the classic gooey fondue and raclette, a grilled cheese topped with potatoes, bread, meats... You can eat as much as you want on the boat, but don't get so caught up in the food that you forget to enjoy the magical views!

The train tour is long but can be divided into several stages: visitors can take a boat from Lucerne to Brunnen and hike through the Mediterranean-like forest to Vitznau (15km), or start with a train or boat trip to Alpnachstad and hike to the beautiful Bürgenstock (16km) before returning to Lucerne.

Take the train to Ticino

The train journey from Lucerne to the canton’s capital, Bellinzona, is also a great experience. You’ll get to see picturesque countryside, a series of lakes and stunning mountain peaks through the wide windows of the carriage. The train also passes by the Rütli meadow, the William Tell chapel, where the Swiss folk hero jumped into Lake Uri. Finally, the train passes the Wassen church, not once but three times, thanks to its intricate spiral tunnel system. Then the train winds through the mountains before reaching the canton of Ticino, which has an Italian feel, with swaying palm trees and delicious traditional gelato.
