UK exempts visitors from many countries from hotel quarantine

From the end of October, the UK will exempt fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia from hotel quarantine.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will exempt visitors from many countries from hotel quarantine starting October 4, The Sunday Telegraph reported. In addition, the list of destinations on the UK's "red list" will be reduced from 54 to nine.

Fully vaccinated travellers from countries including South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia will no longer have to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days upon arrival in the UK from the end of October.

The changes, expected to be announced next week, could lead to a surge in bookings, boosting business for UK airlines and travel companies that have been left largely shut during the pandemic.

The UK plans to ease travel rules from October 4 by removing several countries from its list of medium-risk destinations, and no longer requiring fully vaccinated travellers to take a Covid-19 test before arriving in the UK from countries not on the "red list".

The UK government added that, starting from the end of October, visitors to the UK will be given rapid tests on-site instead of the current PCR test two days after arrival.
