With the Covid-19 pandemic largely under control, Can Gio district is developing a pilot plan to launch its first closed-loop tourist tour on September 30th, contributing to the restoration of tourism services. The tour will have a closed route, with passengers staying only within a designated area.

On the morning of September 12th, during a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Can Gio District Party Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen offered several suggestions regarding plans to restore and develop the economy of this suburban district.

According to Le Minh Dung, Secretary of the Can Gio District Party Committee, in phase 1 (from September 16th to October 31st), in addition to the types of businesses allowed to open according to the city's guidelines, the district also proposed piloting the opening of some additional activities such as: fishing, aquaculture, local transportation, traditional markets, and the construction of individual houses in the area...

At the same time, the district plans to operate one tour or tourist destination to contribute to the restoration of services, and will consider reopening outdoor recreational activities and dine-in services on a small scale but ensuring social distancing as required (under 20 people), depending on the level of disease control and recommendations from the health sector.

Regarding tourism recovery, Mr. Dung said the district plans to develop a closed-loop tour with a specific route, where passengers stay only within a designated area. "We expect to launch the first pilot tour by September 30th," Mr. Dung said.

Regarding this plan, Mr. Nên stated that Can Gio has basically controlled the epidemic and needs to continue striving to maintain cleanliness in the area to develop services and tourism. "We can demarcate specific areas to immediately implement domestic tourism programs during the Covid-19 period," Mr. Nên suggested.

The City Party Committee leaders requested Can Gio to prepare safe destinations and ensure safe travel for residents, with contingency plans in place to handle any potential risks. Currently, after more than three months of social distancing, city residents want to go out, enjoy the fresh air, sample some local food, and then return to the city at the end of the day. The city will invite frontline workers to participate in this tour after months of strenuous efforts to combat the pandemic, helping them to rejuvenate their health.

Another suburban district, Cu Chi, is also considering reopening tunnel tourism, but safety is more challenging in Cu Chi due to its proximity to Hoc Mon, an area with a relatively complex pandemic situation. Meanwhile, Can Gio, with its enclosed and isolated topography, offers more favorable conditions and therefore needs to be implemented sooner.

Located approximately 50 km from the city center, Can Gio is the only district in Ho Chi Minh City that borders the sea for 23 km. The district covers over 71,300 hectares, of which 70% is mangrove forest and waterways. It boasts numerous traditional craft villages and unique festivals, making it ideal for developing eco-tourism and cultural-religious tourism. The district is one of three localities, along with Cu Chi and District 7, that have declared the pandemic under control and are preparing plans for economic recovery after September 15th.
