This is the information given by Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of Phu Quoc City, at the online conference between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Kien Giang province on September 9 about the pilot plan to welcome international tourists to Phu Quoc.
Currently, the city has vaccinated 35% of residents and workers over 18 against Covid-19 and is in need of 250,000-300,000 more doses. The leader also said that only when there are enough vaccines in September will the pilot plan to welcome international visitors be guaranteed. The Ministry agreed with the Provincial Party Committee to propose the Ministry of Health and the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control to allocate Phu Quoc a separate amount of vaccines sufficient to vaccinate residents and workers.
Minister Nguyen Van Hung requested that at least 90% of Phu Quoc residents be vaccinated to ensure safety for both residents and tourists. Any internationally recognized and licensed vaccine can be injected, while further promoting the application of technology to serve the reception of visitors and opening the market.
Since the outbreak, Phu Quoc has had only 5 F0 cases but they have all been cured, while 50% of F1 are in quarantine. Currently, epidemic prevention and control are being strictly controlled.
City leaders emphasized that the epidemic should not cause tourism and services to "hibernate" for too long, affecting people's lives and society. Phu Quoc has all the conditions to welcome visitors back. The city has a total of 25,000 hotel rooms, including 15,000 5-star rooms, along with many high-end entertainment areas, urban areas, shopping malls... In the first 9 months of 2021, Kien Giang welcomed 2.3 million visitors, reaching 21% of the yearly plan. Of which, there were no international visitors, causing a loss of about 10,000 billion VND.

The plan to welcome international visitors to Phu Quoc is expected to start in October 2021, and the time may be adjusted depending on the situation. International visitors to Phu Quoc must have a certificate of full vaccination against Covid-19 or a certificate of recovery from Covid-19 recognized by a competent Vietnamese authority. For those who have been vaccinated, the time for the second injection must be at least 14 days and no more than 12 months from the date of entry. Those who have recovered from the disease must not exceed 12 months from the time of discharge from the hospital to the date of entry. In addition, all visitors must have a negative test result within 72 hours.
International visitors must come from countries/territories with high safety levels in Covid-19 prevention such as Northeast Asia, Europe, the US, the Middle East, Australia... entering by air, through charter flights or commercial flights in each phase. After entering Phu Quoc airport, visitors are taken to accommodation facilities, sightseeing, participating in services and package tours.
