On the afternoon of September 4th, a flight carrying 297 Vietnamese citizens from Japan landed safely at Van Don International Airport. This was the first flight to pilot the Ministry of Health's 7-day medical quarantine program.

All passengers on the flight must meet two conditions: they must have received all doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (the last dose must have been administered at least 14 days and no more than 12 months prior to the date of entry); and they must have tested negative for Covid-19 (using RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method) within 72 hours before departure and be certified by a competent authority in the country of origin.

After arriving at Van Don Airport, passengers traveled to the Novotel Ha Long Hotel (Quang Ninh) to undergo a 7-day centralized medical quarantine (shortened from 7-14 days compared to the normal procedure, depending on the Covid-19 variant from which the passenger departed).

The entire process of receiving passengers at the airport and transporting them to quarantine facilities was carried out systematically, strictly adhering to government directives and Ministry of Health guidelines, ensuring absolute safety for all passengers and personnel serving the flight.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Sau, Director of Van Don International Airport, said that in response to the evolving epidemic situation and the risks of spread from the new variant, the airport has raised the level of safety measures to the highest level.

Specifically, passengers arriving at the airport have their body temperature measured, fill out mandatory health declarations, and go through immigration and customs procedures in a separate area. Passengers are also instructed to wear masks and maintain safe social distancing. Both carry-on and checked baggage are disinfected using specialized disinfectants.

Reportedly, after the initial pilot flights, the Government, together with Quang Ninh province, will evaluate and learn from the experience before widespread implementation. It is expected that on September 12th, Van Don airport will welcome the next flight bringing citizens back from the United States.
