This event marks the first time Dien Bien airport has successfully welcomed a jet aircraft with large payload, high approach speed, and modern flight methods.
This is a turning point for Bamboo Airways to officially put into commercial operation the direct flight route connecting Hanoi - Dien Bien from next September. From there, we will move towards elevating the position of the "Muong Troi" land on the domestic aviation map, with a direct flight network directly connecting the province with key cultural and economic centers across the country such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc...

“Flight QH018 marks the beginning of a new page in the aviation industry in Dien Bien province, and perhaps the entire Northwest region as well as the whole country,” said Mr. Vo Huy Cuong, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
The Embraer jet aircraft used to operate this route has also been used by Bamboo Airways on many direct niche routes such as Con Dao, Rach Gia....
In fact, Dien Bien airport is an airport with unique and complex infrastructure conditions, geopolitical and meteorological characteristics. These characteristics have hindered many research projects to receive CAT C aircraft (aircraft with high approach speed) in the past. Therefore, designing a feasible flight method for aircraft like Embraer was identified as the most important task right from the planning stage.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trong, Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways said: “With this successful test flight, along with the official operation of the flight route to Dien Bien before the National Day on September 2, Bamboo Airways hopes to effectively meet travel needs, bringing to the people of the province and passengers to/from the locality more diverse opportunities for direct flights with five-star oriented flight services”.
This is part of the airline's network expansion plan in 2021, focusing on niche routes to/from localities such as Dien Bien, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Rach Gia... that no other airline has exploited with modern commercial jet aircraft.
