The bridge's unique name is a combination of the town where it is located (Arouca, Türkiye) and its length (516 m). Connecting the Aguieiras Falls and the Paiva Pass, the 516 Arouca Bridge is a new route for tourists exploring the Arouca Geopark.
Bridge 516 Arouca.
Situated 176 meters above the turbulent Paiva River, this pedestrian bridge is definitely not for those with a fear of heights. To enhance the experience for those brave enough to cross, the bridge's construction engineers chose a mesh surface so that each step feels like being suspended in mid-air.
The bridge features a mesh surface that enhances the visitor experience.
Designed by Studio Itecons in 2017, the bridge took over three years to complete. The 516 Arouca Bridge is located in the western area of the Geopark, near the Paiva Trail, Areinho Lake, and close to the villages of Alvarenga, Canelas, and Espiunca.
The 516 Arouca Bridge has "robbed" the Charles Kuonen Bridge (494 m) of its title as the world's longest suspension bridge – overlooking the Matterhorn, Weisshorn, and Bernese peaks of Switzerland.
