The Forbidden City welcomes the first snow of the season

09/11/2021

On November 6, Beijing, the capital of China, welcomed its first snowfall, 23 days earlier than other years. Although the snow was not thick, it still covered the entire city like a thin white curtain. Standing in the middle of the capital, the majestic Forbidden City looked like a painting decorated with red and white interwoven.

It hasn’t even been winter yet, but a cold front has swept across many provinces in northern China, from Beijing, Shanghai to Guangzhou. According to climatologists, the La Nina phenomenon is likely to bring colder, more volatile weather to much of the country this winter.

Hundreds of thousands of Chinese people poured into the streets, eagerly enjoying the first snow of the season. Snow falling on the alleys of Beijing brought a warm and intimate feeling, with images of children playing and people busy making a living. In contrast to the scene of fire and smoke in the human world, the snow in the Forbidden City was somewhat colder.

In the white snow, one can still vaguely see the silhouette of the Forbidden City of the past.
