The Forbidden City welcomes the first snowfall of the season.

09/11/2021

On November 6th, Beijing, China's capital, experienced its first snowfall of the year, 23 days earlier than usual. Although not heavy, the snow blanketed the city like a thin curtain. Standing amidst the city, the magnificent Forbidden City resembled a painting adorned with a blend of red and white.

Even before the start of winter, a cold front has swept across many provinces in northern China, from Beijing and Shanghai to Guangzhou. According to climatologists, the La Nina phenomenon is likely to bring colder and more volatile weather to much of the country this winter.

Hundreds of thousands of Chinese people poured into the streets, eagerly anticipating the first snowfall of the season. The snow falling on Beijing's alleyways brought a warm, intimate atmosphere, with images of children playing and people busily going about their work. In contrast to this bustling scene, the snow at the Forbidden City was somewhat colder.
