What's inside Scotland's largest maze?

Traquair is the largest tree maze in Scotland, covering over 2,000 square metres.², built in 1981.

The maze was originally made of cypress trees, but during the harsh winter of 1983, more than two-thirds of the trees died. It was then replanted with hardier chestnut trees, adding a romantic touch of color each autumn.

Over the years, the Traquair Maze has been a popular filming location for feature films, television series, and commercials, not to mention Bollywood films. It is also a romantic wedding venue. Every year, there is an Easter egg hunt for children, with some 6,000 eggs scattered throughout the maze.
