The best time to visit the Baatara Gorge is between March and April, when the ice melts and flows abundantly down the mountains of Lebanon, creating a magnificent waterfall. Geologists studying the gorge in 1988 discovered a second bridge that may have been created after winter ice broke through a massive block of rock in the gorge. In a fluorescence experiment, they found that after the water flowed down the falls, it created an underground spring in the town of Mgharet al-Ghaouaghir.

Numerous warning signs are posted around the cave to alert visitors not to get too close to the entrance as it is quite slippery and dangerous if they slip. Photographers and tourists are also warned about the risk of rockslides when too many people cross this natural bridge. Therefore, for safety reasons, visitors can only observe from a distance.
