There's a fake Paris in the middle of China.

11/04/2018

The town of Tianducheng in Zhejiang province looks like a replica of Paris, France. Dubbed the "Paris of the East," some of the properties here are designed to evoke the charm, elegance, and classic European style.

Almost every architectural feature here is an exact replica of the original, from the Eiffel Tower to the gardens and landscaping. Parisian photographer Francois Prost visited Tianducheng and created a photo series called "Paris Syndrome," comparing the striking similarities between the two cities.

Below is a series of comparison photos; the original version in Paris is on the left, and the counterfeit version in Tianducheng is on the right.

Without Chinese characters, it's difficult to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit goods.

Not only the houses but also fountains like the "Fontaine de l'Observatoire" were made to resemble those in Paris.
