According to Mr. Wang Tao, Vice Mayor of Zhangjiajie City, the city is an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists. Dubbed "a paradise on earth," Zhangjiajie attracted 4.5 million Vietnamese visitors in 2019 alone.
Mr. Wang Tao emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is one of the two largest cities in Vietnam with a developed tourism and service industry. This is a very promising market for Zhangjiajie to cooperate in developing and restoring tourism after 3 years of "freezing" due to the pandemic, and contributing to the resurgence of travel between the two countries.
Currently, the Chinese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City has begun accepting applications for tourist visas for both group and individual travelers. It is expected that direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Zhangjiajie will resume in early April 2023, operated by two Vietnamese airlines.
Zhangjiajie is often described as "a paradise on earth," boasting magnificent natural scenery with over 3,000 sandstone pillars.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, stated that Chinese tourists ranked among the top three international tourist markets to Ho Chi Minh City in 2019. In the first three months of 2023 alone, approximately 49,000 Chinese tourists visited Ho Chi Minh City. Through tourism promotion activities between the two localities, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism hopes that the tourism industry of both countries will recover and develop more strongly in the future.
Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu extended an invitation to the Zhangjiajie City government and tourism businesses in the locality and China in general to participate in the 17th Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair - 2023, which will take place in September.
In response to inquiries from representatives of Vietnamese travel businesses regarding current COVID-19 prevention and control policies, a representative of the Zhangjiajie city government stated that tourists arriving in China are required to test negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of boarding their flight (either via rapid test or PCR).
However, upon arriving in China, tourists may still be randomly retested. If a tourist tests positive for Covid-19, they are not required to quarantine and can still join the tour group, but must ensure safety and avoid infecting others.
