Currently, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee is requesting relevant departments and units to urgently implement and complete procedures, and work with Phu Quoc High-Speed Ferry Joint Stock Company to put into operation the Da Nang - Ly Son (Quang Ngai) inland waterway tourism route.
According to the Da Nang City Department of Tourism, the city currently has 10 businesses operating waterway tourism with a total of 28 vessels in operation, with a capacity of over 2,000 seats, meeting the prescribed standards and having been granted certification for serving tourists.
However, currently, most waterway tourists in Da Nang travel on the route from Han River port to Tran Thi Ly bridge and from Han River port to Hon Chao (located between the sea areas of Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang). Long-distance waterway tourism routes remain untapped.

According to Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, in the years before the Covid-19 pandemic, Da Nang attracted a large number of tourists thanks to its continuous introduction of new tourism products. To revive tourism, Mr. Dung believes that the city needs to address the remaining obstacles in river tourism products, as this is the most fundamental and weakest tourism product in Da Nang's tourism ecosystem.
Previously, in March 2021, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, Dang Van Minh, sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport agreeing to open a waterway route to bring tourists from Da Nang to Ly Son island district. Mr. Minh affirmed that opening this sea transport route is a great opportunity to "stimulate tourism in the central coastal and island regions," bringing income to the people.
