Isabelle is not only a visual artist, but also a psychologist, writer, and gallery owner. Taking on these diverse roles influences her creative process and style, particularly her research on dreams and the unconscious. Born in 1960, she began her career studying modern literature and clinical psychology, while also studying drawing and painting. She later opened her own contemporary art gallery in 2011 at 11 La Ralentie Street in Paris, allowing her to exhibit her work regularly.
Isabelle Floch is a visual artist, psychoanalyst, gallery owner, and author.
Isabelle Floch believes her artistic inspiration comes from a blend of her passion for "mixing" universes and familiar images from her childhood dreams. The psychologist and artist Isabelle shares: "Dreaming is an unconscious process. We never know what we'll dream about. We can go through dreams with many surprises, experiencing fascinating things. The material from dreams is the core of my artistic inspiration because it's constantly shifting and moving. However, there will be a moment of stillness in my mind, allowing me to lay the foundation for my work."
Dream imagery is a recurring theme throughout the artist's series of works.
Her initial style stemmed from her ability to combine various techniques including collage, painting, pastels, poscating, pencils, retouching, and digital techniques. She created composite, multi-material images.
The artist shared that the first layer comes from photographs she took herself. Then, she uses "Fine Art Paper Hahnemühle" (a specialized art paper) to print those images. Next, Isabelle uses various tools such as markers, acrylics, and colored pencils to explore her own imagination and create unique works. This technique with multiple layers of materials gives Isabelle's paintings greater visual depth and multiple layers of meaning.
The artwork "How can I stop you" was created using multiple layers of different materials.
Isabelle Floch's work transcends all barriers by employing innovative techniques. She combines elements from unexpected perspectives, creating new symbols. Viewers can discover an image that carries the dreams of children, and more than that, the deepest secrets behind it.
Isabelle's work transcends all barriers with its cutting-edge techniques.
In her solo exhibition titled "Metamorphic Vision," Isabelle draws inspiration from Vietnamese culture and people. She admires the resilience, dynamism, determination, love of life, and forward-thinking spirit of the Vietnamese people. Isabelle's affection for the Vietnamese people is conveyed through her delicate, feminine, sensitive, and undeniably mysterious and captivating paintings.
Isabelle Floch's artistic perspective lies in the mystery and creativity of nature blended with visual transformations. The series of paintings in the exhibition, Metamorphic Vision, offers viewers the opportunity to immerse themselves in nostalgic realms of memory, following the flow of emotions to reach the hidden "universes" within the paintings.
The exhibition is on display at 11:11 Espace until November 6th.
