Echoing Trip is a walking and learning program designed by Echoing Drum. Participants improve their health while learning about local culture and history. "Learning isn't just about studying books; it must always be combined with practical experience. Anyone can tell a story about culture in their own way," Phan Khac Huy (36 years old, Tien Giang) - Founder of Echoing Drum company - shared with reporters.

How can we share academic knowledge...but not in an overly academic way?
Launched in 2016, Echoing Trip (formerly Travelearn) lacked an "ideal model" to refer to. At that time, few could imagine the significance of walking for learning. Khac Huy organized over 70 talk shows and workshops revolving around culture, food, beliefs, and religion to help audiences understand the educational values the program offered, while also laying the groundwork for future programs.

Balancing academic knowledge with practical experience was incredibly challenging for the founding team. Khac Huy and his colleagues always strived to harmonize academic rigor so that each program, when implemented in practice, would be relevant to the participants. He hoped that students would embrace learning here as a simple tool to open their minds and satisfy their curiosity. Most importantly, he hoped that students would understand the cultural and historical story of the place they live in – Ho Chi Minh City.
Among the programs designed by Echoing Trip, "Passage to Cho Lon" stands out. This program, which explores the history, culture, and religion of the old Cho Lon area, has been held regularly since 2016. To date, it is the only program that provides detailed insights into the Chinese communities in District 5. Through these field trips, participants can learn to distinguish different Chinese groups through their distinctive eating habits, speech patterns, and mannerisms.
Echoing Trip currently has 10 program codes. Specifically for the old Cholon area, there are 4 different codes, the most notable being "Passage to Cholon".
Le Huynh Kim Ngan (33 years old, Ho Chi Minh City), currently CEO and Founder of Entrepreneurship Education Vietnam and Twenty.vn, shared: "If I hadn't participated, I could have researched on my own, but I wouldn't have had a sufficiently comprehensive and in-depth perspective. That is, I would have just wondered and searched for information, rather than being able to connect the dots and explain things scientifically like in the program." She also gave an example: "I've always been impressed by the shophouse architecture of the Chinese community, seeing similarities to Hoi An, Penang (Malaysia), Singapore, or even District 1 in Saigon. But I wouldn't be able to explain it logically from a historical perspective." After participating in the Echoing Trip program, Ngan was able to understand that.

"To be able to see and understand the future, we must definitely learn and appreciate the values of history, of what happened in the past, of the generations of our grandparents and parents," Kim Ngan stated.
Before Echoing Trip emerged, Khắc Huy had already started educational projects such as "Fun Classroom," "One Bowl Classroom," "Cội Việt Bookstore," and "Saigon Memory Space." He always wanted to spread knowledge to a wide audience, especially young people. "I feel proud to be able to tell Vietnamese culture to Vietnamese people," Khắc Huy shared.
The program provides a fundamental understanding of the history of Buddhism, basic terminology of various schools, familiar keywords of different schools of Buddhist philosophy, and finally, an exploration of the specific context of Buddhism in Southern Vietnam from the early 20th century.
Initially, Huy didn't think there were so many people eager to learn and explore history and culture. Through various programs he organized, Huy felt the studious spirit of many young people. This further fueled his passion and dedication to sharing knowledge.
"Learning isn't just about studying books; it must always be combined with practical experience," Huy emphasized. The moments of interaction between those who 'travel to learn' and the local people help Huy maintain his passion for the profession. According to him, anyone can tell a story about the culture in their own way. The guide's role is simply to inspire the journey.

Từ góc độ một người tham gia nhiều Echoing trips, Kim Ngân bộc bạch: "Mình thích cách vừa đi vừa kể chuyện. Tham gia những chuyến như này giúp củng cố lại những điều mình cảm nhận về thành phố nơi mình sinh ra và lớn lên. Anh Huy là một người có năng khiếu kể chuyện, có đam mê, tình yêu với nghề lớn, nên những điều mà anh ấy dày công mày mò có thể giải đáp được nhiều thắc mắc kể cả những thứ rất nhỏ".
Ai phù hợp với những chương trình của Echoing Trip?
Các chương trình của Echoing Trip được thiết kế ở cấp độ tri thức phổ thông, dễ tiếp cận cho người mới bắt đầu. Vì vậy, chương trình học phù hợp với hầu hết các bạn muốn mở rộng kiến thức. Trước đây, những bạn học viên cần phải dành ra khoảng hai tiếng để nắm bắt sơ lược những kiến thức trước buổi học. Nhưng hiện nay, đã có những tài liệu online để giúp các bạn có thể tự tìm hiểu giúp tiết kiệm thời gian hơn.

Đội ngũ hiện tại của Echoing Drum có 9 thành viên. Riêng "Echoing Trip/ Travelearn - Đi để học" có 6 thành viên tham gia nghiên cứu, đồng thời hướng dẫn các chương trình. "Tất cả thành viên, đối tác hướng dẫn của Echoing Trip đều là người dân bản địa, am hiểu sâu sắc văn hóa địa phương. Cũng cần yếu tố như người ở độ tuổi từ 30-35, tự học tốt và biết cách hướng dẫn tự học hiệu quả", Khắc Huy chia sẻ.
Khi được hỏi về lý do tại sau lại là "Vang Vọng Trống Chầu", Khắc Huy cho biết: "Echoing Drum mong muốn gióng lên những hồi trống thôi thúc người trẻ đương đại tìm tòi về quá khứ, tìm lại những vẻ đẹp, những giá trị văn hóa đã được cha ông thành tựu như những của báu để lại cho mai sau. Tiếng trống vang vọng trong thời hiện đại để lan truyền sự thức tỉnh, nhìn nhận lại căn tính văn hóa của người trẻ kim thời, đồng thời khơi gợi nên sự kế thừa, đổi mới những vốn quý của quá khứ bằng giáo dục và nghệ thuật. Từ đó, tiếng trống lại theo chân người trẻ vang vọng khắp các chân trời, góc bể".
Echoing Trip đã đưa mình về lại và được tưởng tượng về thế giới đầy màu sắc và đẹp đẽ của lịch sử - văn hoá - nghệ thuật Nam Bộ. Chi phí cho những chuyến "du học" này rất hợp lý, đội ngũ tổ chức chu đáo, cực kỳ khuyến khích mọi người đi thử một chuyến điền dã cuối tuần cùng Vang Vọng Trống Chầu.
