As of the morning of April 11th, the Covid-19 pandemic was unfolding erratically in many places, with over 100,000 deaths worldwide, double the number in just one week. The number of infections in the US exceeded 500,000, with the number of cases in New York alone higher than in any other country.

Saigon Railway Station is implementing testing for all passengers.

The Ho Chi Minh City International Health Quarantine Center announced that from 0:00 on April 11th, they will check electronic health declarations and take samples for coronavirus testing from all train passengers arriving at Saigon Station (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City). After completing the checks, train passengers will be allowed to leave the station.

According to information from the Vietnam Railways Corporation, as of now, there is only one train departing from Saigon Station and one train returning to Saigon Station each day.

Singapore continues to record record numbers of new infections.

According to Channel News Asia, Singapore reported 287 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, with more than half linked to an outbreak at an apartment complex. This is more than double the number of cases from the previous day – which was the highest daily number of infections to date.

Singapore currently has a total of 1,910 confirmed cases and 6 deaths due to Covid-19.

Malaysia extends travel restrictions.

On April 10th, Malaysia officially announced an extension of its movement restrictions for another two weeks, until April 28th. On the same day, the country recorded 118 new cases of infection.

Malaysia currently has the highest number of infections in Southeast Asia.

Phuket: the first province in Thailand to go into lockdown.

Phuket has become the first province in Thailand to impose a complete 14-day lockdown starting April 13th to curb the spread of Covid-19. Under the lockdown, everyone is required to stay at home, except for a few special cases such as healthcare workers or government officials. Those who violate the new regulations could face up to one year in prison and a fine of 100,000 baht.

The Thaiger website reported on April 10th that governors in 14 provinces (out of a total of 76 provinces in the country), such as Chiang Rai, Tak, and Nan, have announced restrictions on movement in and out of their provinces.

Türkiye has banned citizens from leaving their homes for 48 hours.

According to AFP, Turkish authorities have ordered all residents to stay home for 48 hours, from midnight on April 10 to midnight on April 12. This ban applies to 31 cities, including the economic hub Istanbul and the capital Ankara.

Yemen reports its first COVID-19 case.
