The Bo Mon school in Tu Nang commune, Yen Chau district, Son La province is a charitable project designed and built in 2018. Despite being a social project with limited funding, the school's unique architectural design has earned praise from many international architectural magazines such as Archdaily and Designboom.

The school was designed and built as a gift for nearly 70 children and one teacher from the H'Mông ethnic group in three villages: Bó Mon, Cayton, and Cô Tông. Architects from Kien Truc O were responsible for the design of this special project. The school has a total area of 237 m².2 and officially commenced operations in June 2019.

Because architecture is not simply about aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality, but also about creating an inspiring atmosphere for its users. Therefore, the Bo Mon school is a harmonious combination of these elements, despite being built on a limited budget and under extremely difficult construction conditions.

The unique structure of this school consists of two main parts: two classrooms for children and a room for teachers' accommodation, separated by a central courtyard. Initially, this central courtyard was designed as a multi-functional open space under a cool canopy, where children could play together.

But once put into operation, this patio also became a place where children from the neighboring school would come to play and wait for each other to go home together, as well as a venue for after-school classes and traditional festivals.

The most distinctive feature of the building is its roof system with its gently undulating shape. The soft, flowing form of the roof creates dynamic, shifting shadows and fosters a connection between the architecture and the surrounding natural landscape of endless hills and mountains.

Viewed from above, the building blends seamlessly into the mountainous landscape of Son La, unlike many other social projects that appear out of place. It is precisely because of this harmonious design that the architects have called this place a special "connecting station," a place where art and application, function and culture intersect.

And surely, in the future, Bo Mon school will become one of the must-visit destinations for travel enthusiasts!
