02/11/2021

On the morning of November 2nd, two Bamboo Airways aircraft collided while taxiing to the runway in preparation for departure at Noi Bai Airport. Currently, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has suspended both aircraft and the individuals involved, and has established an investigation team to clarify the incident.

The incident occurred at 7:15 AM on November 2nd at Noi Bai Airport. At that time, an Airbus A321 aircraft, registration number VN-A222, was being pushed by a specialized vehicle from the parking area to taxiway W1 in preparation for takeoff to Phu Quoc, when its tail wing unexpectedly struck the cockpit of the VN-A590 aircraft parked behind it.

The incident caused minor damage to the tail wing of one plane bound for Phu Quoc, while the other sustained scratches to its cockpit. Although no major damage occurred, Bamboo Airways had to switch to a different aircraft to transport all passengers to Phu Quoc as scheduled, resulting in a delay of approximately two hours compared to the original flight.

According to initial assessments, the collision may have been caused by the crew towing and pushing aircraft VN-A222 using a specialized vehicle, who performed the task incorrectly and failed to observe their surroundings. Currently, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has drawn up a report, suspended the two aircraft and the individuals involved, and established an investigation team to clarify the incident.

According to Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, there was light rain at Noi Bai Airport this morning. Following several recent collision incidents on the tarmac, Noi Bai International Airport has instructed units to move vehicles within the airfield at the correct speed and in the correct lanes, especially when towing or pushing aircraft during bad weather and limited visibility.

The head of the Northern Aviation Authority added that the agency is currently working urgently with relevant parties to verify, clarify, and handle the matter in accordance with current laws.
