Spanning from North to South, each region of our country has its own unique cultural characteristics, especially during the Lunar New Year. Spring always brings many emotions because it is the season of freshness, vitality, and the beginning of a new year. For those who, due to the nature of their work or study, have to work or study far from their hometown, they hope to be reunited with their family and hometown during the Lunar New Year. Above all, this is also considered a rest period to create motivation for the long year ahead.
The theme of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) and the arrival of spring is also an endless source of inspiration for artistic creation. Works drawing inspiration from Tet are very diverse, ranging from music, poetry, and films to paintings…

Recreating the atmosphere of Tet in the countryside of yesteryear.
Currently working in the field of graphic design, Nguyen Cong Cuong has used materials from the Northern Vietnamese countryside to create vivid oil paintings using AI technology. The paintings recreate images of old villages that are both realistic, familiar, and simple. These include thatched roofs, village roads, Tet flower markets, and bustling scenes of daily life.
The oil painting series "Welcoming Spring" was inspired by the artist Cong Cuong's own memories of Tet (Vietnamese New Year) in the past: "I was born and raised in a rural area of Ninh Binh province, but I have been away from home for almost 15 years. For me, the inspiration comes from nostalgia for my homeland, or perhaps because the place where I was born has many beautiful landscapes, so those images have been deeply imprinted in my mind."

Today, with the development of AI technology, creating a painting on a digital platform is very quick and convenient. However, according to Cong Cuong, to create paintings that evoke emotion, the artist needs to have knowledge of the subject or genre being painted.
Memories of the past in the countryside still linger in people's minds, even after many years have passed. When seeking inspiration for his AI-generated paintings, Cong Cuong revisited his memories of the old countryside and his childhood to make the themes more vivid and meaningful. All of this is clearly depicted, allowing viewers of the artwork to relive the beautiful memories of their childhood.

“My most memorable moments while creating this series of paintings are the summer afternoons spent secretly swimming in the river, the times playing with friends in the fields after the rice harvest, the smell of straw during the harvest season, and many other memories that can never be relived…”, the artist confided.
When AI technology is incorporated into art.
With his strengths in graphic design, Cong Cuong realized that AI drawing skills were relevant to his current work. AI technology helped him overcome his weaknesses, such as not knowing how to draw by hand or digitally. Thanks to the development of AI technology, he has utilized it to compensate for these shortcomings and create impressive works of art.

In a conversation with Travellive, Cong Cuong readily shared his secret to creating unique oil paintings: “With AI technology, the image is produced in just a few seconds. The longest part is probably the brainstorming and editing process. Then, we analyze what features, genres, and colors should appear in the painting. AI Art is controlled by text and keywords, so the execution time is quite fast.”
In the future, Cong Cuong will focus on using digital technology to create more unique paintings of Vietnamese culture, people, and landscapes, aiming to spread the image and identity of Vietnam to people both domestically and internationally. In addition, he plans to create basic tutorials so that those who are not skilled at drawing can still create paintings and images according to their own ideas with the help of AI technology.
