Visitors entering the United States do not need to be tested for Covid-19.

14/06/2022

The US will officially lift the requirement that international passengers must be tested for Covid-19 before entering the country by air, effective June 12th.

This decision was made after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially assessed that international passengers arriving in the country by air would no longer be required to present a negative Covid-19 test result before departure.

The agency noted that vaccines have been widely administered and COVID-19 treatment is no longer complicated, yielding many positive results. After 30 days of implementing this regulation, the US CDC will reassess the feasibility of eliminating COVID-19 testing for incoming travelers. Despite the relaxed regulations, the US CDC still recommends that incoming travelers proactively get rapid tests to protect themselves.

In addition to waiving testing requirements for incoming travelers, the US has also relaxed many other disease control regulations. In 2021, the country reopened its borders to many European nations. This past April, the US also lifted the mask requirement on public transportation, including flights.

Previously, many US airlines had petitioned the government regarding the loss of international passengers due to the requirement of a negative Covid-19 test result one day before departure. Many passengers missed their flights or had to pay high costs for testing or quarantine if they tested positive.

Several other countries, such as the UK, Mexico, Norway, and Switzerland, have also lifted the requirement for Covid-19 testing before entry.
