Visitors entering the US do not need Covid-19 testing

14/06/2022

The US will officially remove the requirement for international passengers to be tested for Covid-19 before entering the country by air from June 12.

This decision was made after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially assessed that international passengers arriving in the country by air will not have to present a negative Covid-19 test certificate before departure.

The agency believes that vaccines have been widely administered and Covid-19 treatment is no longer complicated, with many positive results. After 30 days of applying this regulation, the US CDC will re-evaluate the feasibility of eliminating Covid-19 testing for entrants. Although the regulation has been relaxed, the US CDC still recommends that entrants proactively take rapid tests to protect themselves.

In addition to the regulation of no testing for people entering the country, the US has also relaxed many other regulations on disease control. In 2021, the country reopened its borders to many European countries. Last April, the US also removed the regulation of wearing masks when using public transportation, including on flights.

Previously, many US airlines sent petitions to the government about losing many international passengers due to the regulation requiring negative Covid-19 test results one day before the flight. Many passengers were in situations where they missed their flights or had to pay high costs for testing or quarantine if they tested positive.

Several other countries, including the UK, Mexico, Norway, and Switzerland, have also removed requirements for Covid-19 testing before entry.
