According to Thai PBS World, from June 1, Thailand will allow partial reopening of pubs, bars and other entertainment venues including karaoke bars and Soapy Massage Parlours (soap massage parlors, also known as Body Massage, performed by women on customers in bathtubs)...
On June 6, the Bangkok Post published a video titled “Night Market Life Returns to Bangkok.” The video depicts how the hustle and bustle of the city’s nightlife venues have returned.
Thailand's red light districts are gradually reopening.
Previously, Thai and international press quoted Thai officials as saying: "Nightlife will return from June 1 in Bangkok and 30 other provinces in the Green and Blue zones, including famous tourist destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chonburi... These nightlife venues must still comply with Covid-19 prevention procedures and close at midnight, and employees need to perform rapid tests every week."
However, adult entertainment services are still opening before the official relaxation order. According to Amazinglanta.com, all red light districts in Bangkok (Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, Patpong...) are "technically" still closed. However, some Go Go Bars (a type of "red light" bar with pole dancing, striptease...) that sell fast food are still discreetly welcoming customers.
Also from June 1, Thailand further eased travel restrictions by eliminating quarantine for international tourists. Accordingly, foreign visitors who have been fully vaccinated only need to present vaccination confirmation and health insurance of at least 10,000 USD to enter the country.
International visitors who have not been vaccinated or have only been partially vaccinated need to have a negative result from a PCR test or rapid test issued within 72 hours before traveling.
The Thailand Pass system has been phased out for Thai citizens, but will remain in place for non-Thai citizens. The mask mandate will remain in place pending a new decision (expected in mid-June, to phase it out in some areas).
Tourists flock to Thailand in increasing numbers.
Thanks to the easing of restrictions, Thailand has welcomed 1 million tourists since the beginning of 2022 until May 18 - a significant increase from the 427,869 visitors in all of 2021, but still far behind the nearly 40 million visitors in 2019.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), approximately 50,000 tourists from neighboring markets arrive in the country each month during the low season (May-September). During the high season (October-December), the number of arrivals reaches over 1 million people per month, including visitors from more distant markets such as Europe and the US.
