Thailand eases entry regulations to attract tourism.

02/05/2022

From May 1st, tourists who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will no longer need a negative test result or undergo short-term quarantine when traveling to Thailand.

According to a travel website.travelpulse.comFrom May 1st, travelers only need to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination and insurance confirmation when registering online through the Thailand Pass entry registration system.

The immigration process can be time-consuming, so travelers are encouraged to register as early as 3-7 days before their planned trip. However, according to the Bangkok Post, the requirement to register for the Thailand Pass will soon be waived starting June 1st. In addition, the health insurance coverage limit will be halved from US$20,000 to US$10,000.

The tourism industry contributed 12% to Thailand's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) before the pandemic. At the end of April, the Thai government reported that it had welcomed 713,183 international visitors since the beginning of the year, with over 50% being tourists.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand hopes that, with relaxed entry policies, it can attract at least 1 million tourists per month by the end of 2022 when the next peak tourist season begins in the country. This figure is only about 30% of Thailand's average monthly tourist numbers before the Covid-19 pandemic.
