Tourism in Germany is expected to recover to record highs.

The German Tourism Federation (DRV) predicts that the country's tourism revenue this year will return to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.

In January, revenue for travel agencies and online booking platforms in Germany doubled compared to the same period last year, and increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2019.

"Customers still prioritize leisure travel. This gives us optimism, despite the economic and political uncertainties," DRV chairman Norbert Fiebig said in his opening remarks at the ITB travel fair in Berlin.

The German Tourism Federation (DRV) predicts that the country's tourism revenue this year will return to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.

He said this is a positive sign that German tourism revenue in 2023 is likely to return to the record highs of 2019, when consumers spent around 98 billion euros on holidays. Of that, they spent about 69.5 billion euros on booking services, with the remainder on other expenses.

In 2021, DRV announced that German tourism had recovered to near pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels. Annual revenue reached 84 billion euros, almost double that of 2020.

By 2022, Berlin, Germany's capital, was among the top 10 most popular destinations in the world according to CNN. This was also the year the government lifted most entry restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. With this rapid growth, it is highly likely that Germany's tourism industry will soon recover to record levels in 2023.
