According to data from the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in April 2022, the number of international visitors to Vietnam increased significantly after a long period of sharp decline due to the pandemic. Specifically, Vietnam welcomed more than 232,000 international visitors through its airports.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of international passengers using Vietnamese airlines also increased sharply by 214.7%. Vietnamese airlines assess that the number of international passengers has shown a certain recovery.
Travel demand between Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan is showing signs of growth.
Passenger travel demand after the pandemic has seen growth, particularly between Vietnam and Japan and South Korea. On May 10th, Vietnam Airlines announced an increase in frequency on eight routes to Japan and South Korea starting May 15th. The airline also restored three routes to South Korea using wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft.
Regarding flights to Japan, from May 15th, Vietnam Airlines will add 1-2 flights per week on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. From July 1st, the airline will resume flights between Da Nang and Tokyo. Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates 25-30 flights per week from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to major cities in Japan.
For routes to South Korea, starting May 15th, the airline will add 3 to 4 flights per week on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Seoul. Routes such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Busan, and Da Nang - Seoul will be resumed and their frequency increased to 3-4 flights per week.
Meanwhile, Vietjet Air continues to boost routes between Vietnam and Japan and South Korea, and expand its network to India, Australia, and Russia. According to data on its website, Vietjet operates daily scheduled flights to several major airports in Japan and South Korea.

Earlier, Vietjet flight VJ971 took off from Hanoi to New Delhi (India) after a hiatus of more than two years. A representative of the airline also stated that international routes to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Indonesia have been expanded. Currently, international routes are recovering strongly after the pandemic.
