Vietnam tourism is bustling again

25/12/2021

After a period of "closure" due to the 4th wave of Covid-19, many domestic destinations are crowded with visitors during Christmas and New Year 2022.

VnExpress conducted a survey of Vietnamese tourists in early December about their plans to travel during the 2022 New Year holiday. The results showed that nearly 30% of the more than 10,000 respondents were ready for New Year trips, despite the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic. By the end of December, many familiar destinations were bustling again.

Sapa

In Sa Pa, 4-star accommodations in the town are currently 90% full from December 31, 2021 to January 2, 2022. Since the beginning of November, the number of domestic visitors to Sa Pa town has increased sharply on weekends, mainly from Hanoi and the province. Most of the local tourist attractions have welcomed visitors back, such as Cat Cat village, Ta Van, and Fansipan peak.

Tourists choose to stay at luxury resorts because of the reduced prices and peace of mind with epidemic prevention measures. A representative of Topas Ecolodge said the resort was fully booked for Christmas and New Year half a month ago. In addition to Sa Pa, Hoa Binh and Quang Ninh are also destinations chosen by many domestic tourists for year-end travel and relaxation.

Hoi An

Christmas and New Year 2022 marked the "revival" of Hoi An tourism. Thousands of domestic visitors crowded the walking streets on both sides of the Hoai River, considered the most crowded in many months in the old town. On this occasion, the locality opened the Old Town Lantern Festival, starting a series of events to welcome the return of activities to "warm up" the old town and welcome Christmas and the New Year. In the near future, Hoi An will simultaneously organize many programs such as the New Year's Eve Festival, Old Town Lantern Festival, Welcoming the first visitors to the old town... to attract both domestic and international visitors.

Dalat

As of mid-December, the number of domestic tourists flocking to Da Lat reached nearly 63,000, an increase of nearly 3 times compared to the previous month. The central area of Da Lat recorded bustling streets and traffic, mostly cars, buses and motorbikes of tourists coming to the city for weekend trips. On Christmas and New Year 2022 alone, high-end hotels in Tuyen Lam Lake area had a 70% booking rate, while famous places in the city center were more than 90% full. The Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control checkpoint No. 1 at Chuoi Pass, Madagui town, Da Huoai district recorded congestion and overload of vehicles, mostly domestic tourists from Ho Chi Minh City.

Da Lat city is also in the cherry blossom season, many visitors choose this place as a destination for Christmas and New Year holidays because of the best weather of the year. According to forecasts, from now until the beginning of the Traditional New Year 2022, the number of tourists to Da Lat will continue to increase sharply.

Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa

Although tourism activities in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa are still quiet compared to the pre-pandemic period, from November until now, many individual and domestic group tourists have begun to be recorded. In November, the number of domestic tourists increased again, reaching more than 30,000, with tourism revenue reaching nearly 200 billion VND. In addition to welcoming domestic tourists, Khanh Hoa also plans to welcome about 11,000 international visitors during the New Year holiday, which lasts until the traditional New Year 2022. Specifically, on December 26, the locality will welcome the first group of Russian tourists after 2 years of "freezing" due to Covid-19. Hopefully, this will be a boost to "warm up" the tourism industry in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa again.

Vung Tau

Over the past year, the Covid-19 outbreak has forced tourism activities in Vung Tau to close. However, since mid-December until now, the number of domestic tourists flocking to Vung Tau has been quite large, although this is the low tourist season of the locality. According to accommodation establishments on Thuy Van section, in the past two weekends, the number of tourists coming here reached about 45-50% of capacity, especially on Saturday night up to 60%.

Most tourists from Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast provinces stay for a short time to swim, enjoy the breeze and enjoy seafood. After a long period of social distancing due to the Covid-19 epidemic, "Hopefully by early 2022, tourism in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will almost completely recover," said Mr. Trinh Hang, Director of the Department of Tourism of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

Phu Quoc

According to a representative of the Kien Giang Department of Tourism, this December, the locality welcomed about 100,000 domestic visitors. Tourists mainly go to Phu Quoc and Ha Tien, which is also the most beautiful tourist season of the year. To meet travel needs, Phu Quoc currently has about 18 flights/day to welcome many groups of visitors to the pearl island for entertainment and relaxation on the occasion of Christmas and New Year 2022. In addition, every day there are at least 4 trains departing from Rach Gia city to take visitors to the pearl island.

Domestic tourists to Kien Giang have increased sharply again, so tourism services are also more bustling. Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam, director of Tam Dang Khoa Canoe Company (An Thoi Ward, Phu Quoc City), shared that tourists mainly travel on their own with family or with friends to book tours to the island to dive and see coral, catch fish, then eat on the spot, take photos and watch the sunset at Hon May Rut Trong. Especially, on the three weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), canoes for rent on the island continuously depart, operating 4-5 trips/day (each trip carries 10-20 guests). Many large resorts such as Nam Nghi, JW Marriott, Movenpick, Radisson Blu, Premier Village... are all full or have very few rooms left. This is a good sign because the number of tourists to Phu Quoc is gradually increasing again, and those working in tourism services on the island are also excited because their income is gradually becoming more stable.
