Bijin-bayashi Forest dates back to the 1910s, when the landowner needed money to move to Tokyo. He cut down all the trees and sold them, then donated the cleared forest to local farmers. After the land was cleared, thousands of young oak trees sprouted, healthy, tall, and straight. The new landowner was captivated by the forest's beauty and allowed them to grow as they are today.

The journey from Tokyo takes approximately two hours. Visitors can take the JR Joetsu Shinkansen train to Echigo-Yuzawa station, then transfer to the Hokuhoku line to Matsudai station. Bijin-bayashi is about a 15-minute taxi ride from the station.
