This batch of vaccines is another contribution from Germany to support Vietnam's immunization program. The German government has stated that it will provide even more vaccines to Vietnam, with the total expected to reach approximately 10 million doses.
The German Ambassador to Vietnam, Dr. Guido Hildner, stated: “It will be a long time before we can defeat the pandemic. Germany will continue to supply vaccines to Vietnam through the international COVAX vaccine mechanism. We can only defeat the pandemic if it is controlled everywhere. That is why Germany and the European Union support the COVAX vaccination program to ensure fair and transparent access to COVID-19 vaccines throughout the world.”

Ms. Rana Flowers, Acting United Nations Coordinator and UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, expressed gratitude to the German government and people for sharing vaccines with the Vietnamese people. “We want to ensure that vaccines are distributed equitably to every region of this country and of the world. The governments that have supported and will continue to support COVAX, including financial support and vaccine aid, are a driving force in the fight against the spread of this pandemic,” Ms. Flowers said.
Thus, with this latest batch of vaccines donated by the German government, Vietnam has now received a total of 45,197,910 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through the international COVAX vaccine mechanism.
The COVAX mechanism is jointly run by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and Innovations (CEPI), the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), and UNICEF. Last year, Germany co-founded the Access to Covid-19 Tools Accelerator and, with a contribution of €2.2 billion, is the program's second-largest donor.
